Week 3
Practice Plan and Objectives:
Learning and using players’ names- coaches and the players.
Greet each player individually as they arrive. Ask to shake their hand or high-five.
Prepare for the First Game on Saturday- make sure you have a team manager and assistant coach.
FUNdamental Skills for the Game
Dribbling- find green grass (open space without traffic/defenders)
Laces- push the ball forward and run
Sole- rolling the ball in either direction
Ball Control
Inside of Foot- turning the ball
Sole- stopping the ball before it goes OUT OF BOUNDS
Practice - 45 to 60 minutes
5-10 Minutes- Warm Up with Pirates of Caribbean
Reinforce turns from first practice
Make it FUN! Rename the parts of the ship or let the children come up with new names
Reinforce the parts of the foot
Laces to dribble outside of the circle
Inside of the foot and sole to turn the ball and stop the ball
WATER BREAK
10-12 Minutes- Find the Color (from week 1)
Reinforce the different turns and parts of the foot from Pirates
Allow children to name the different areas this time
Give two colors or two areas at a time to make it more challenging
Give specific parts of the foot the children have to use each round (ex. Laces, sole, or inside)
WATER BREAK
10-12 Minutes- Play the Game!
3v3 to 4v4, depending on the number of children at practice
Okay to have uneven numbers, like 3v4
Ask parents to help you with NEW BALL
When the ball is out of play, shout ‘FREEZE!’
Practice Kick-offs and let each child have a turn taking the kick-off
Coach the players with the ball on dribbling, turning, and stopping the ball
Reinforce the sole and inside of the foot to control the ball and stop the ball before it goes out of bounds.
Laces to dribble into space and go to goal
