Week 1
Practice Plan and Objectives:
Introduce yourself to all of the players.
Greet each player individually as they arrive. Ask to shake their hand or high-five.
FUNdamental Skills
60% of Coaching Focus is on ATTACKING Principles
Individual Skills
Dribbling
Laces (top of the foot)- push the ball forward and run
Sole (bottom of the foot)- rolling the ball in either direction
Inside of Foot and Outside of Foot (little toe)
Ball Control
Inside of Foot and Outside of Foot- turning the ball
Sole (bottom of the foot)- stopping the ball
Shooting and Passing
Laces
Inside of Foot- more for placement shooting and passing
Outside of Foot (little toe) to pass while running
Team Skills/Tactics
Attacking- Building from our Defensive Third and Combining with Teammates
Practice - 75-90 minutes
15-20 Minutes- Warm Up with Cut In Cut Out and/or King of the Ring
Helps with learning names
Do the first turn yourself as a demo- be creative!
Reinforce parts of the foot
Laces to dribble outside of the circle
Inside of the foot and sole to turn the ball and stop the ball
Teach the Scissors/Ronaldo (1v1 with Defenders)
Teach the Pull-Cruyff and the Cruyff Turn
WATER BREAK
15-20 Minutes- 1v1 to 3v3
Reinforce Parts of the Foot
Laces to dribble quickly to space and finishing
Inside, Outside, and Sole to turn and cut
WATER BREAK
20-25 Minutes- Play the Game!
6v6 to 7v7, depending on the number of children at practice OR Scrimmage against the other team sharing field.
Coaches do not play in the scrimmage- Use this time to TEACH Why Coaches Don't Join in to Practice
Okay to have uneven numbers, like 5v6 or 6v7, etc.
Use big goal if possible and rotate players to try out Goalkeeper position
When the ball is out of play, teach throw-ins, goal-kicks, corner-kicks
Coach the players with the ball on dribbling, turning, and shooting
Reinforce the attacking principles from previous activities
Laces to dribble into space and finish
